Support for The Malaysia-Japan Environment Week

OECC served as the secretariat for the Malaysia-Japan Environment Week, held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from October 15 to 17, 2025, overseeing the comprehensive planning and smooth operation of the event. The program brought together approximately 650 in-person attendees and 230 online participants, representing a wide range of stakeholders, including private sector companies, research and academic institutions, international and regional organizations, and NGOs. In addition to logistical coordination, OECC provided substantive support by organizing sessions featuring high-level presentations by senior government officials and local authorities from both countries. Furthermore, OECC staff designed and facilitated a dedicated session on the Partnership to Strengthen Transparency for co-Innovation(PaSTI).

Presentation materials and the event report for the thematic sessions conducted during the event are available on the dedicated special website.https://jprsi.go.jp/ew2025my/en/index

Objectives of the Environment Week and OECC’s Role

The Malaysia-Japan Environment Week was convened to foster mutual understanding of environmental and related issues between the two nations and to identify opportunities for collaboration in advancing green business, thereby contributing to the creation of a decarbonized and resilient society. As the event secretariat, OECC led a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including overall coordination, program design, participant management, venue operations, and support for online distribution. Through these efforts, OECC laid the essential groundwork for enabling smooth technical exchanges and promoting deeper mutual understanding of environmental technologies and the challenges faced by both countries.

In addition to serving as the secretariat, an OECC staff member delivered a guiding presentation for a PaSTI session on GHG Measurement and Reporting by Companies. The presentation emphasized the importance of enhancing transparency in GHG emissions and shared Japan’s experience in implementing Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) systems at multiple levels. Furthermore, during the business pitch segment, OECC introduced the activities of JPRSI (Japan Platform for Redesign: Sustainable Infrastructure), aimed at promoting the global dissemination of Japanese environmental solutions. These engagements allowed us to effectively showcase the comprehensive strengths and capabilities that are a hallmark of OECC’s work.

Key Achievements of the Environment Week

This event played a pivotal role in strengthening cooperation between Japan and Malaysia in the environmental sector. Key achievements included creating opportunities for exchange between government and private sectors, fostering technical collaboration, and facilitating information-sharing between both nations to advance sustainable development. Participants expressed strong interest in further engagement, with feedback such as a desire “to make direct contact with the presenting companies,” and reports that exhibition booths “led directly to business negotiations.”

For OECC, supporting the Environment Week marked an important step toward expanding our capabilities in managing future international conferences and advancing overseas environmental projects. We extend our sincere gratitude to all organizing, co-hosting, and supporting bodies for their invaluable cooperation, and reaffirm our commitment to driving efforts toward a sustainable future.
