Result of the 2nd Webinar Series: Training Program for Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management and High Efficiency non-Fluorocarbons Appliances
(Ended: December 2021 – February 2022)

OECC organized the 2nd Webinar Series as part of the project of the Strategic Global Promotion of High Efficiency non-Fluorocarbons Appliances FY2021, under the Ministry of the Environment, Japan, with participation by government officials and private sector experts from 7 countries (Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Viet Nam). The Webinar Series was planned and hosted in cooperation with the Institute for Global Reduction of Fluorocarbons and other GHG Emissions, and EX Research Institute Ltd.

Webinar title: Training Program for Fluorocarbons Life Cycle Management and High
Efficiency non-Fluorocarbons Appliances
Date: Session 1 [December 9, 2021]
Session 2 [January 18, 2022]
Session3 [February 22, 2022]

The cooling sector (Refrigerators and air conditioners: RAC), is now indispensable to our daily lives. Appropriate management of fluorocarbon is the key to prevent the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and ozone-depleting substances (ODS) to the atmosphere.

Promoting countermeasures for global environmental protection in the cooling sector is important to realize sustainable development and so-called virtuous cycle of economy and environment.

During the second webinar, short video clips were presented that introduced some of Japan’s technology for life cycle management of fluorocarbons as some of the measures to address the issues. Please check the below video links for your reference.

Video 1: Fluorocarbons leakage prevention and detection

Avoiding fluorocarbons leakage is an effective technological option in the cooling sector, in order to prevent fluorocarbons emissions to the atmosphere and for maintaining energy efficiency of equipment.

In this video, technology information on preventing fluorocarbons leakage and leakage detection system utilizing IoT are presented, with case studies of actual private sector’s business operation. It also includes interviews with technology suppliers.

Video 2: Recovery of refrigerants

Appropriate recovery of refrigerants is an effective technological option in the cooling sector in order to prevent fluorocarbons emissions to the atmosphere and for proper reclamation of the refrigerants.

In this video, technology information on appropriate recovery of refrigerants is presented, with case studies of actual private sector’s business operation. It also includes interviews with technology suppliers.

Video 3: Treatment of used fluorocarbons

Appropriate disposal of refrigerants is an effective technological option in the cooling sector in order to prevent fluorocarbons and other hazardous chemical substances emissions to the environment.

In this video, technology information on treatment of used fluorocarbons are presented, with case studies of actual private sector’s business operation. It also includes interviews with technology suppliers.
